Ruishton Past, Present and Future.
We have attempted through this project to tangibly preserve and record a little of our past and present, with the children of Ruishton School providing a glimpse into the future.
Ruishton Schools
Ruishton V & A Church of England Primary School was situated on the crossroads in the centre of the village. Although small it has served four or five generations of village children since its foundation in 1861.
Thornfalcon School
Jemima Chisholm Batten, aged 68, (d 1883) founded the Manor School. The earliest recorded schoolmistress we have found was a Mrs Strong (Church Rates Book, March 25th 1851). Mrs Strong died in 1856 and it would appear that no one else moved immediately into the schoolhouse.
